Rachel has a PhD in Epidemiology and Population Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and an MSc in Applied Epidemiology from the University of Nottingham, UK. She has experience working on epidemiological research projects doing quantitative data collection and analysis and on systematic reviews. She has done research on smoking in sub-Saharan Africa and among migrants and ethnic minority groups in Europe, and currently exploring ways to prevent and improve care for skin infections and kidney disease among people who inject drugs in the UK.

 

As a consultant for RESPOND, Rachel is working on a systematic review to synthesize evidence on the barriers and enabling factors to effective continuity of care for hypertension in low and middle-income countries.

Hugo is a visual artist passionate for graphic design and Information Technology. He holds an MSc in Communication from the University of Havana (Cuba) and a Diploma of Instructor of Plastic Arts from the Escuela Nacional de Instructores de Arte Eduardo Garcia Delgado, (Havana, Cuba).

 

As a collaborator for RESPOND, Hugo is responsible for creating images, infographics and leaflets for RESPOND to engage with the project participants. He also advises on the website graphics design and responsible for the website QA testing.

Ann Hazel is a communication and development practitioner passionate about the conservation of the natural environment and community empowerment. She is currently the Chief of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources CALABARZON Public Affairs office and a member of the faculty of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, School of Design and Arts, where she has been teaching under the Multimedia Arts Program for more than 10 years.

 

As a consultant for RESPOND, Ann conceptualised the Manila Team communications plan aiming for stakeholders to use study results to create policies that will contribute to the improvement of health systems in the Philippines.

Connie is an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Public Health in the Department of Health Policy and Management, Gillings School of Global Public Health, with a specific interest in global health policy.

 

Connie spent more than two months shadowing the RESPOND team in London and under the supervision of Benjamin Palafox contributed to a systematic literature review synthesising global evidence from interventions designed to address disparities in hypertension management and outcomes

Avanti is a premedical undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Economics and Philosophy with specific interests in health economics and public health ethics. She spent two months at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine shadowing the Health Policy and System Research Team on an initiative building universal consensus around competencies for the field under the supervision of Dina Balabanova and in conjunction with Health Systems Global, a professional society for health policy and systems research.

 

During this two months, Avanti also contributed to RESPOND by serving as a second reviewer for a systematic literature review of frameworks used to conceptualise pathways of individuals diagnosed with cardiovascular diseases, under the supervision of Maureen Seguin
